Dublin, Calif. -- Sybase, a Dublin-based maker of corporate infrastructure and mobile software, said on Friday that it has agreed to acquire Extended Systems, an Idaho-based developer of mobile software, for $71.3 million in cash. The deal, which first must be approved by regulators and Extended Systems' stockholders, is expected to close before the end of the year. Sybase plans to integrate Extended Systems into its iAnywhere Solutions subsidiary. Founded in 1984, Extended Systemshas approximately 2,500 corporate clients and a strong presence in Europe. The company has 180 employees in North America and Europe. "The acquisition… is expected to enhance our portfolio of mobile middleware [products] and strengthen our geographic presence, particularly in Europe," said John Chen, the chairman, president, and CEO of Sybase.
