Cupertino, Calif. -- Symantec, the Cupertino-based provider of virus
protection software and services, said on Thursday that it has signed a
deal to acquire WholeSecurity, a Texas-based developer of behavior-
based security and anti-phishing technology. Financial terms of the deal
were not disclosed. WholeSecurity's technology analyzes the
characteristics and actions of viruses, worms and other malicious code,
offering protection against these threats without the need for traditional
security signatures. The company's clients include eBay, Deutsche Bank
and Visa. The deal is expected to close in October.
