Santa Clara, Calif. -- In what's being termed a "major expansion," Persistent Systems, a
Santa Clara-based provider of custom software development services, said on Monday
that it plans to increase its employee base by 40% by the end of the year and move
2,500 software professionals into a new facility in India by March. Anand Deshpande,
the company's chairman and managing director, said that the plans are designed to meet
a rapidly growing market demand for customer software development services.
Persistent, which already has expanded its workforce from just over 800 to just over
2,000 in about a year, currently has more than 140 customers worldwide.
