Mountain View, Calif. -- Despite recent talks about a potential
advertising deal with Microsoft, America Online is now in exclusive
negotiations to expand its current advertising partnership with Mountain
View-based Google and potentially sell the search engine giant a 5%
stake in AOL for $1 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported in its online
edition Friday. Citing people close to the situation, the Journal said that a
deal could be finalized after AOL parent Time Warner's board meeting on
Wednesday. The deal will likely allow AOL to sell ads among Google
search results. Google, reportedly, also is likely to promote AOL's
properties in the sponsored links in its search results. AOL had been in
talks with Google since January. Microsoft entered the discussions in
September.
