Newark, Calif. -- Payment Processing Inc. (PPI), a Newark-based provider of payment processing services to software developers and merchants, said on Tuesday that it has acquired British Columbia-based Paradata Systems for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 1995, Paradata is the developer of a payment system used by businesses in the U.S. and Canada. PPI, which added 15 employees through the deal, said that the deal will help it to enhance its 10-month-old payment gateway, and allow it to add Canadian processing support. PPI's payment gateway currently supports over 500 software developers and more than 10,000 merchants. Last year, the company processed nearly $3 billion in Visa and MasterCard payments.
