Menlo Park, Calif. -- Mayfield Fund, a Menlo Park-based venture capital firm focused on technology, on Wednesday announced new investments in four companies through its $375 million Mayfield XII fund. The companies include U.K.-Based Alfresco, an open source content management provider; San Mateo-based Akimbi, a maker of virtualization software; China-based PingCo, a provider of free SMS services; and San Francisco-based Tagged, a social networking portal for teenagers. Mayfield said that the investments reflects its expansion into growth markets.
