Santa Clara, Calif. -- Intel, the Santa Clara-based chip-making giant, said that it will invest $300 million to build a semiconductor assembly and test facility in Vietnam, marking the first such investment by a semiconductor maker in the country. The company said that construction of the Ho Chi Minh City facility will begin immediately, and is part of its worldwide expansion of production capacity. By the end of this year, Intel said that it plans to spend more than $6 billion worldwide on capital additions. When completed, the Vietnam facility will be the seventh assembly site of Intel's network and is projected to eventually employ about 1,200 workers.
