Palo Alto, Calif. -- Meritech Capital Partners, a Palo Alto-based venture capital firm, has led a new $20 million funding round for Sourcefire, a Maryland-based maker of network security software, the company said on Wednesday. All of the company's previous investors -- Sierra Ventures, New Enterprise Associates, Sequoia Capital, Core Capital Partners and Inflection Point Ventures -- also participated. It marked Sourcefire's first venture funding since landing $15 million in its third round in The news comes two months after Israel's Check Point Software Technologies, with has U.S. headquarters in Redwood City, called off its planned $225 million acquisition of Sourcefire. The FBI reportedly opposed the sale, fearing that sensitive government information being secured by Sourcefire's software could fall into the wrong hands.
