Santa Clara, Calif. -- McAfee, the Santa Clara-based Internet security giant, said on Tuesday that it has fired its general counsel, Kent Roberts, following a review of employee stock option grants. "In connection with that review, the company became aware of one episode involving the General Counsel in 2000 that was improper," McAfee said in a statement. The company said that its audit committee is continuing to review other option granting practices, and has retained independent counsel to assist it in that effort. It also said that it has been in communication with both the Securities and Exchange Commission and Justice Department on the subject.
