Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Shares of Sunnyvale-based chip-maker AMD rose more than 10% by late Friday, less than day after computer giant Dell announced plans to use the company's chips in its high-end servers. Ending its long-time exclusive relationship with Santa Clara-based Intel, Dell said that it will use AMD's Opteron chip in its multi-processor servers. Dell ranks No. 3 in the multi-processor server market -- behind Palo Alto-based Hewlett-Packard and IBM -- with about a 10% market share. There are still no plans, however, to use AMD's chips in Dell's PCs.
