AOL Launches Revamped Music Download Service
Dulles, Va. -- In a bid to challenge industry leaders such as Napster and iTunes, AOL on Tuesday launched a revamped version of its digital music subscription service, which allows customers to either download single tracks or pay a monthly fee for unlimited downloads. The company said that its AOL Music Now service features 2.5 million audio tracks from all four major record labels and other independent labels, as well as several thousand music videos. Subscribers can download music and videos to their PCs and compatible portable devices. Visitors can download individuals tracks for $0.99 and videos for $1.99, or can have access to unlimited downloads starting at $9.95 a month. Another aspect of the service, available for $4.95 a month on its own, featured 200 AOL Radio stations, plus several others from partner XM Satellite Radio.
