Fremont, Calif. -- Corel, the Canadian maker of popular software such as WordPerfect, WinZip and CorelDraw, said on Monday that it will acquire Fremont-based multimedia DVD software maker InterVideo for about $196 million. InterVideo's software allows users to record, edit, author, distribute and play digital multimedia content on PCs and other devices. Corel said that the acquisition will allow it to offer a broad portfolio of digital media software, as well as provide it with an established presence in the Asia Pacific and Europe regions. The deal is expected to close by the end of this year.
