Cupertino, Calif. -- Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Mountain View-based Internet search giant Google, has been elected to the board of directors of Cupertino-based Apple, the company said. Schmidt also sits on Google's board of directors and Princeton University's board of trustees. Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple, praised Schmidt's "insights and experience," adding that he will be "very valuable in helping to guide Apple in the years ahead." Earlier in his career, Schmidt was the chairman and CEO of Novell and CTO of Sun Microsystems.
