Emeryville, Calif. -- Fox's MySpace said that it has licensed audio fingerprinting technology from Emeryville-based Gracenote designed to block unauthorized copyrighted music from being posted to the online social network. The technology can identify copyrighted works in Gracenote's database and prevent the music from being uploaded. MySpace said that users who repeatedly attempt to upload unauthorized music will have their accounts permanently deleted. "This is another important step we're taking to ensure artists control the content they create," said Chris DeWolfe, the CEO of MySpace. Gracenote's database is also used by many music applications to identify CDs and track listings when users insert a CD into their computers.
