Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Network Appliance (NetApp), a Sunnyvale-based developer of storage technologies, said on Friday that it has acquired Santa Clara-based Topio, a maker of software designed to help users replicate, recover and protect data, for $160 million in cash. NetApp said the acquisition expands its capabilities in the areas of data protection, data migration and data cloning. The company said that Topio will become a new Data Replication business unit, and its research and development team will continue to operate in Israel. The two companies originally announced plans for the deal in early November.
