San Jose, Calif. -- Cypress Semiconductor, a San Jose-based maker of semiconductor products, said on Wednesday that it will sell its SMaL Camera Technologies unit to Massachusetts-based Sensata Technologies for an undisclosed sum. SMaL Camera makes cameras and camera subsystems used in automotive driver assistance systems from customers such as Bosch and Delphi. The company has approximately 25 employees. “Cypress acquired SMaL Camera in February 2005 and with it came great technology to supplement our image sensor business and achieve a stronger position in the market,” said Cliff Drowley, the vice president of Cypress's image sensor group. “Our decision to divest the business is based on a strategic shift to focus resources onto our custom image sensor business." Cypress will retain its custom image sensor business in Belgium. In January, Cypress also announced the $53 million sale of its Silicon Valley Technology Center (SVTC) business to private equity firms Oak Hill Capital Partners and Tallwood Venture Capital.
