San Jose, Calif. -- Lockheed Martin, the Maryland-based defense contracting giant, on Wednesday officially opened its newest facility, an operations building in North San Jose. that will prototype and test systems as part of a $2 billion Defense Department communications contract. The facility, known as the TSAT (Transformational Satellite Communications Systems) Missions Operations System building, eventually will house more than 300 employees, the company said. The project also includes an advanced network that will provide high-bandwidth, secure communications for the Air Force. San Jose mayor Chuck Reed performed a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new building on Wednesday.
