San Francisco -- TeeBeeDee, a San Francisco-based online social network targeted at users over 40, said that it has secured $4.8 million in its first round of venture capital, led by Shasta Ventures. Monitor Ventures also participated in the round, which the company plans to use to officially launch the site -- currently in preview mode -- next month. Previously the company had been backed by several prominent individual investors, including Jan Brandt, the former vice chairman and CMO of AOL, and Jim Hornthal, founder of the Preview Travel and former vice chairman of Travelocity.com. The company was founded by Robin Wolaner, the founder of Parenting Magazine and a former executive at CNET Networks.
