Santa Clara, Calif. -- Applied Materials, a Santa Clara-based developer of nanomanufacturing technology, said on Monday that it will pay about $330 million in cash to acquire Italy's Baccini, a supplier of automated metallization and test systems for manufacturing solar cells. The company said that it combining Baccini's equipment with its own technologies will allow it to offer automated production technology for fabricating advanced solar cells. The deal is expected to close early next year.
