Santa Clara-Based Macrovision to Acquire San Francisco-Based CRI

Santa Clara, Calif. - Macrovision, a Santa Clara-based provider of media anti-piracy and distribution technologies, said on Monday that it will acquire San Francisco-based Blu-ray Disc security technology from Cryptography Research Inc. (CRI) for about $45 million. Upon completion of the deal, Macrovision will own CRI's SPDC (Self-Protecting Digital Content) technology, which forms the basis of BD+, a "key element of Blu-ray's content security platform," the company said. Macrovision also said it will hire certain CRI employees involved with the technology.
