San Francisco -- Marketcetera, a San Francisco-based developer of open source platforms for automated trading systems, said that it has raised $4 million in its first round of funding, co-led by Shasta Ventures and Jack Selby, the managing director and co-founder of Clarium Capital. Angel investors rounded out the financing, which the company plans to use to expand its engineering and marketing operations. Founded by Toli Kuznets and Graham Miller, Marketcetera said that it is aiming to use open source software and methodologies to give financial institutions an alternative to expensive, monolithic proprietary trading systems.
