Cupertino, Calif. -- Media outlets and blogs throughout the country reported on Friday that the much-anticipated -- and hyped -- launch of Apple’s new iPhone ran into difficulty due to an IT glitch, preventing thousand of customers from activating the phones. The AP cited a spokesman for AT&T as saying the problem was caused by Apple’s iTunes servers that blocked users from activating the phones at stores. “It looks like Apple has hit some serious problems with the U.S. launch of the iPhone 3G,” reported VentureBeat. “I just left the crowd outside the Apple Store in downtown San Francisco, where the first person in line -- Dale Larson, a mobile consultant who has been camping out since Wednesday night -- came out of the store reporting that he couldn’t activate the phone, and that Apple stores across the country have the same problem.”
