Menlo Park, Calif. -- Khosla Ventures, a Menlo Park-based venture capital firm, has invested in an $8 million deal for Boston-based Sand 9, a spinout from Boston University that is developing micro-electromechanical systems for consumer electronics. Other investors in the deal include General Catalyst Partners and Flybridge Capital. Sand 9 was founded last year and received $2 million in seed capital from General Catalyst and Khosla. The company, which currently employs 10 people, said it will use the funds to expand its engineering and product development operations.
