San Mateo, Calif. -- IntelePeer, a San Mateo-based developer of web-based software that allows users to deliver voice and multimedia capabilities without incurring up-front costs, said on Wednesday that it has raised $18 million in its third round of funding, led by new investor VantagePoint Venture Partners. The company said that it will use the proceeds to expand its global presence and further develop its technology. IntelePeer's AppworX open communications platform and voice peering grid network is designed to give application developers the ability to create interactive voice, video, SMS, data and other rich media services. The company, also backed by Kennet Venture Partners, NorthCap Partners and EDF Ventures, operates its own carrier-grade network, carrying more than 6 billion minutes.
