Fremont, Calif. -- JackBe, a developer of "mashup" software designed to help businesses using service-oriented architecture (SOA), said on Tuesday that it has raised $5 million in new funding and appointed industry veteran Wayne Jackson as its new chairman. Previous investors Harbert Venture Partners, Core Capital Partners, Blue Chip Venture Company, Intel Capita, and Darby Technology Ventures participated in the financing, which the company will use to expand its sales, marketing and partner activities. Jackson is the former CEO of Sourcefire, leading that company through its initial public offering (IPO) in March 2007 before stepping down earlier this year. He also co-founded Riverbed Technologies, which was acquired by Aether Systems in 2000. JackBe is based in Maryland, but has its research and development and engineering operations in Fremont.
