San Jose, Calif. -- Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST), a maker of hard disk drives and sold state drives, said that will expand into external storage by acquiring San Mateo-based Fabrik, maker of G-Technology and SimpleTech storage products. Financial terms of the deal, expected to occur in April, were not disclosed. Fabrik's business will continue intact and form the core of Hitachi GST's newly-formed external storage business. Mike Cordano, Fabrik's co-founder and CEO, will hold an unspecified role on the company's executive team. "The Fabrik acquisition becomes the cornerstone for the next phase of our business transformation," said Steve Milligan, the president of Hitachi GST. "It strategically expands our market presence, strengthens our product portfolio and increases our customer base."
