Mountain View, Calif. -- Audience, a Mountain View-based developer of noise suppression technology used in consumer products where voices needs to be intelligible in noisy environments, said on Wednesday that it has raised $15 million in its fourth round of funding. New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Tallwood Venture Capital, Vulcan Capital and VentureTech Alliance participated in the round, which increased the company's total backing to $60 million. Peter Santos, the president and CEO of Audience, said that his company will use the proceeds for "continued investment in R&D, extension of our voice processor product line and expansion of our global operations." The company's voice processors -- custom integrated circuits modeled after the human hearing system -- currently are deployed in handsets made by LG, Pantech and Sharp.
