Redwood Shores, Calif. -- Stockholders of Santa Clara-based server maker Sun Microsystems on Thursday approved the company's $7.4 billion takeover by Redwood Shores-based Oracle, first announced in April. Sun said that approximately 62% of its shares voted to adopt the agreement, under which Oracle will pay $9.50 a share. The two companies have been partners for more than two decades, with Oracle using Sun's Java language and software and Solaris operating system as the basis of some of its core products.
