San Francisco -- Craig Newmark, the founder of San Francisco-based online classified site Craigslist, will be part of a special panel tasked with helping the Department of Veterans Affairs speed processing times for disability claims while providing greater transparency to veterans. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki called the addition of Newmark a way for his department to "think outside of the box." The panel will review ideas proposed by VA officials from each of the organization's 57 regional offices. "I am very encouraged by the fact that VA is embracing new ways to look at old problems," said Newmark, a vocal proponent of using the Internet and technology to improve government operations. The panel will review the top 17 submissions and chose five projects that will receive full funding.
