Santa Clara, Calif. -- Intel, the Santa Clara-based chip-making giant, on Friday named Douglas Melamed as its senior vice president and general counsel, responsible for overseeing all of the company's legal matters, as well as corporate and government affairs. He will maintain offices at Intel headquarters in Santa Clara, as well as in Washington, DC. Melamed most recently served as a partner at law firm WilmerHale, where he was a leader in its Regulatory and Government Affairs Department and served as a member of its Antitrust and Competition Practice Group in Washington, DC. He joined the firm in 1971. He also served in the Department of Justice from 1996-2001 as acting assistant attorney general in charge of the Antitrust Division, as well as principal deputy assistant attorney general. Melamed replaces Bruce Sewell, who left the company in September to become the general counsel at Cupertino-based Apple.
