Mountain View, Calif. -- Synopsys, a Mountain View-based provider of software and services for semiconductor design and manufacturing, said that it has acquired Sunnyvale-based VaST Systems Technology. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Synopsys said that the acquisition will add complementary virtual prototyping products that will allow it to expand into the automotive and consumer application space. "In order to meet the stringent development requirements associated with today's growing electronics and software content in automotive and consumer products, developers are virtualizing their electronic sub-systems to start software development earlier," said Joachim Kunkel, senior vice president and general manager of the solutions group at Synopsys. VaST previously had raised more than $34 million in venture capital.
