London, England -- The Global Network Initiative (GNI), a year-old organization pushing for Internet privacy rights and the prevention of Internet censorship, on Tuesday named former British Telecommunications (BT) executive Susan Morgan as its first executive director. Morgan expects to join GNI in May, following her role at BT as the head of corporate responsibility strategy, policy and business planning. Still in its infancy, London-based GNI, which is partially supported by companies such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, currently is focused on increasing its membership and advancing its agenda. "Technology has the potential to dramatically increase access to information and protect personal privacy," said Morgan. "However, increasing demands from governments to limit content, restrict freedom of expression and monitor users represent a worrying threat to human rights."
