San Francisco -- eXo, a French provider of Java middleware for cloud services, with U.S. headquarters in San Francisco, said that it has raised $6 million in its first round of funding. Auriga Partners and XAnge Capital participated in the round, which the company will use to accelerate its U.S. operations, including ramping up marketing and sales. In addition, eXo has created a new board of directors, naming Bob Bickel -- former vice president of strategy at JBoss and general manager of HP Middleware -- as chairman. eXo's platform is designed to make Java web sites and applications faster to build and easier to deploy. The company opened its first U.S. office in October following a partnership with Red Hat.
