Mountain View, Calif. -- Google said it plans to hire more than 6,200 new employees this year, marking the company's largest year of expansion to date. "We'll hire as many smart, creative people as we can to tackle some of the toughest challenges in computer science: like building a web-based operating system from scratch, instantly searching an index of more than 100 million gigabytes and even developing cars that drive themselves," wrote Alan Eustace, the company's senior vice president of engineering and research. Mountain View-based Google said it hired more than 4,500 new employees last year, primarily in engineering and sales, which was second only to 2007, when it hired over 6,000. The news comes on the heels of a monster year for the company, which generated $29.3 billion in revenue and $8.5 billion in net income.
