Washington, DC -- A pair of Capitol Hill heavyweights have announced plans for an event next month on finding ways that Congress can more effectively use Facebook. Sponsored by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the inaugural "Congressional Facebook Developer Hackathon" is set to take place Dec. 7 at the Capitol Visitors Center in Washington, DC. "We're bringing together a bipartisan gathering of members of Congress, Congressional staffers, Facebook engineers and software developers to explore the potential connections between legislative data, constituent correspondence and social media," the pair said in a statement. The bulk of the event will consist of four breakout discussion groups focusing on various areas of Congressional engagement with the public.
