San Rafael, Calif. -- Autodesk, the San Rafael-based developer of 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, said on Wednesday it will acquire New York-based Horizontal Systems, a maker of building information modeling (BIM) collaboration tools for the architecture, engineering and construction industries. Financial terms of the deal, expected to close by the end of January, were not disclosed. Autodesk said Horizontal's technology will allow it to move BIM to the cloud by providing users with the ability to more easily access and coordinate project data where and when it's needed. "The integration of Horizontal Systems technology with other Autodesk BIM solutions will streamline business processes and workflows for increased efficiency, improved profitability and higher quality outcomes," said Jim Lynch, Autodesk's vice president of architecture, engineering and construction solutions.
