Cupertino, Calif. -- MagnaChip, a South Korean maker of analog and mixed-signal chips with U.S. headquarters in Cupertino, said on Friday it will acquire fellow South Korean semiconductor company Dawin Electronics. Financial terms of the deal, expected to close by the end of March, were not disclosed. Sang Park, MagnaChip's Chairman and CEO, said the acquisition will allow his company to "continue to diversify and expand our fast-growing Power Solutions business into the commercial and industrial segments." Darwin's products include Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) modules, which are used in many consumer appliances such as variable speed refrigerators, air-conditioners and stereo systems, as well as electric vehicles and hybrid cars.
