San Jose, Calif. -- Shares of San Jose-based Vocera Communications rose sharply on Wednesday, hours after the developer of instant voice communications tools raised $80 million in its initial public offering (IPO). The company priced its 5 million shares at $16 -- higher than its expected price range of $12-$14 -- with shareholders also selling another 850,000. Vocera's technology includes software and hands-free, wearable, voice controlled communication badges, smartphones and other wireless devices. The company is trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "VCRA."
