Palo Alto, Calif. -- Kevin Colleran, one of the first employees of Menlo Park-based Facebook and developer of the initial advertising programs for the social network, has joined General Catalyst, a venture capital firm with offices in Palo Alto and Massachusetts. He will serve as a venture partner, focused on mentoring young entrepreneurs in early stage investments. Colleran was Facebook's seventh employee at the time of his hiring in 2005, and leaves as the company's second-most tenured employee behind founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. "Kevin's experience monetizing social networks and deep understanding of the consumer experience make him a tremendous addition to our team," said Joel Cutler, managing director at General Catalyst. Founded in 2000, General Catalyst currently has $2.2 billion of committed capital under management across six funds.
