Pleasanton, Calif. -- Rolith, a Pleasanton-based developer of advanced nanostructured coatings for the renewable energy, green building and consumer electronics markets, said on Thursday it has raised $5 million in its first round of funding, from DFJ VTB Capital Aurora and AGC America. Rolith said it will use the proceeds to bolster business development efforts, as well as to expand its engineering team and enhance research and development. "This investment will allow us to scale up our nanostructuring technology to substrate areas larger than what is offered by any competitors and demonstrate feasibility of the first few of our nanostructured coatings," said Boris Kobrin, the company's founder and CEO. The company was formed by Kobrin, Mark Brongersma and Julian Zegelman in 2008.
